The What If's

There are those times
It really
Can not be helped
When a man
Asks himself
What if

Though
It is best avoided
In a moment
When least expected
His mind weary
From lack of sleep
Too much sleep
Over stimulation
Too much stimulation
It just happens

A thought
Enters the mind
Sometimes
Triggered
By seeing someone
Hearing a song
From years past
And then the
What If's
Begin

Tis'
A natural thing
Particularly
As
Realization
Sets in
That immortality
Is not mine

For most
It is
A mere mental
Exercise
And nothing changes
In their daily life

Others burdened
With desire
To achieve
Something not yet gained
Begin to focus
And here in
Lies the danger

Like Don Quixote
Charging off
To fight
One more windmill
A man
Can find
He is living
In two worlds
One with bridges
To take you over
The water
And others
That lead
Into worlds
Meant for children

Who am I to judge
Between
What one is better
It is
One fact
When you
Were a child
You saw both
Through innocent eyes
That pollute the
World
Of What If's
When as a man
You enter a realm
Meant for innocence
