There was a time
When rules that
Governed the day
Governed my mind
How long
It has been
When sleep
I did at night
Now it seems
Like a cat
A nap here
Or there
Is all that
Keeps me
There was a time
When by
Some unforeseen rule
I would see you
Not so
This day
Years pass and then
When a chance happens
Like sleep
It slips past
In the night
Driven
To perpetual
Deprivation
I can not fathom
When by chance
We once again sit
Across the table
On some eve
I ask myself
When I pause
Will your eyes
Still show the joy
I ponder will
Your anger flare
When you find
That like the last time
I have already eaten
An absurd thought
It might be
But then again
I wonder if I will
Walk past
Not realizing
That was you
As my memory
Sometimes fades
Like the sleep
I do not get
Into the night
There was a time
When sleep came
So naturally
