Plans Change A Story 9

It was found after I mentioned my personals again that the sheriff did not have any of my personals, I told my mentor it was always a pleasure but now it was time for me to go.  The governor asked if I needed a ride and I told him thanks but no thanks as I needed some alone time after I checked with my legal advisers as to the status on several other matters.  Nodding he shook my hand and left.  Once in the rental car I told my mentor to drop me off at the small resort.  My handler said if I was looking for another identity those were no longer there.  They stopped at popular local fast food diner down valley and over dinner I brought up the fact I had no idea what had come of the other legal matters.  The old man looked at his helper who filled me in.  The lawsuit against the two ball players had been settled after it went class action, along with that there were now criminal charges pending in other states and they were working out a plea bargain, but since they had some big backing they would probably get dropped down to time served will have to pay yet another big fine which would be covered by their endorsers of  course and their book and movie deals.  I asked about my divorce and was told it had been settled and since I was not around my wife got everything.  My mentor asked what I was going to do.  I told him I would find something and he could tell his friends not to worry, I did not break when they had me in their therapy center for two weeks introducing me to their water therapy and electric shock therapy so I was not going to talk now.  Both of these two who I had gotten to know over the years dropped their jaws to their plates.

I nodded and said that was behind us and it was a simple misunderstanding which I had dealt with.  As we got up to leave I said since they sucked as lawyers I would need some cash as my guess after their fees they had nice bank accounts.  I made sure they were gone before I left and made use of the five thousand dollars to get me a change of clothes, some hair dye and a hair cut.  I went straight to the airport afterwards and went to the locker I kept and picked it and pulled out the small overnight bag I had stored there.  In it I still had a clean set of ID's using my original birth name.  With these I was able to purchase a ticket back to SC for the next morning.  Walking to the strip in town that night I went and got a room overlooking the strip and ordered room service.  Watching the news I caught up watching the reports on the gala event for the movie about the events that lead up to my meeting the seven women and the subsequent legal wranglings.  The movie itself was not just receiving the limelight but so were the women involved.  The actor who played me was none other than my old neighbor.  I went out late to a twenty four hour big box store and picked up a couple of throw away phones and once back at the hotel i called my wife on my old number; she answered the first time and asked where I was and I asked if it mattered as she got what she wanted.  She told me to stop and asked for a moment to put myself in my shoes; I come back into her life, propose again and then disappear.  I kept silent for a long time and told her I had had no control of that as I was in the hospital and now it seemed I was having to start over.  I could here her sigh and ask when we could sit down and talk.  I told her I was flying back to SC and if she did not mind I was getting some things.

When Christina said that was not a good idea as she had sold the house, I told her than I had wasted that money on a plane ticket as it was non refundable.  She told me she was sorry but she had not been thinking straight at the time and then asked what money so I told her I had to borrow money from my legal advisers who were now off to who knows where to enjoy their retirement while I went and found another job, some place to live and a new life so I can grow old and die alone.  I hung up after that comment and dropping that phone on the floor I crushed it under my boot.  The following morning I called the airlines and told them my plans had changed as my ex-wife had sold the house I built her and asked what I could do; thankfully I was told I could exchange it and I said Mexico sounded nice and found myself with reservations to Cabo in two days.  I took a walk up the mountain and ended up on the forested mountain top.  While grabbing a bite at the top I struck up a conversation with a fellow and his wife on vacation from SC and we talked about the house I had built that my ex had got and sold, the lakes along the Savannah, Charleston and the upcountry.  I made the decision there after a week in Cabo I would be going back.  Taking the cable car down with my new friends I gratefully accepted a ride back to my hotel.  After checking my bandages in my room I went down and arranged for the hotel shuttle to take me shopping in the morning.  I was on my way back to the elevators when I passed my ex-wife with one of her new friends; she looked down and said this better be the last one.

She was actually looking for me, having nothing else to do I went into the lounge and took a seat where I would be visible to almost every one.  While she was talking to the front desk the manager who had looked at a picture glanced over at me and then shook his head.  The petite blond was on the phone and I could here her tell someone they could still get dinner here.  They walked right by me as they entered the lounge area and ordered iced teas.  After about thirty minutes the rest of her gang and my children came walking in. It was Christopher who actually looked at me and then stared as they ordered dinner.  I finally paid for my drink and then stood up and walked to the elevator.  When I was standing inside the glass elevator Christopher got his mom's attention and pointed to me.  I pretended not to see her waving.  It took another hour for them to actually find my room. I had left the door cracked.  When they all walked in to see me looking out the window, my daughter asked what this room set me back; I told her I had originally planned on one night for two fifty but had to change that but got a deal on the second and third so it would just be under a six hundred.  My wife asked if i could afford it and I shrugged and said I had the cash at the moment and I knew where I could get some more.  I never once turned around and Christina asked if I was going to look at her and I asked why I would want to remind myself what I had lost.  When my oldest daughter asked me to turn around I did.  I could tell Christina had been crying, my heart broke but I kept it to myself. She told me we needed to have a family meeting and smiling I told her to go right ahead and have her family meeting.  For awhile she stared at me and then asked me how she could walk right past me.  I shrugged and then was asked by the petite blond why I did not say anything.  I told her that was a fair question and the truth was I did not have anything to say as I was still dealing with the fact I had no wife, no home, no job and no life.

Christina was playing with her wedding band, I asked if her current main squeeze was okay with that and she slapped me.  I told her thanks but if she was done maybe it was time for her to leave as I had to get up early and get a few things before my flight.  Christina asked why I was leaving and I shrugged and said maybe it was because I needed to figure out now that I had nothing to show for the last thirty years I needed to make some decisions about my life and where I wanted to settle down to die alone.  When Christopher said we lived here now I asked who lived where.  Looking around he told me he talked his mom into buying a house out here; smiling I told him to enjoy the summers as they were intensely hot.  When he asked where I would be I sat down and told him to be honest I had no idea but since his mom divorced me it would not be a good idea for me to live in the same area.  When my second daughter asked if I still loved her I told her that was why I could not live in the same area, my ex slapped me again and I finally asked what that was for.  When she did not answer I told her yes I loved her but since she had already told me she would never divorce me and then when I get out of the hospital to find she could not keep her word and my guess was she was seeing someone else so no I could not live in the area and chance running into her having a romantic night out with someone else.  She told me she really wanted to talk to me and I told her in the morning I had to do some shopping and then would be doing some job hunting via the computer and would be getting to sleep early and the following morning I would be flying out alone to go sit somewhere for a week and try to grasp the gravity of my situation, so if she wanted to tag  along she could as it was a free country.

When no one made to leave I went to the door and told them if they were not married to me they had to leave.  When no one did I went to he house phone and called the front desk and asked for the manager. Christina came over and hung up the phone and looked at her crew and motioned for the door.  The petite blond asked if she was sure.  Christina nodded and told her to go ahead and stay at the house.  When they were all gone I pulled of my shoes and shirt and checked my bandages.  Christina asked what happened now; I told her why she was schmoozing with her friends, I was getting shot at and then it all came to a screeching halt when they dropped the charges.  Coming over to inspect it she asked what we were going to do.  I grabbed her hands and pushed them away as I went to shower and told her if I remembered correctly I was recently informed she gave me the boot so there was no we.when it came to us but my guess there was a we between her and little Miss Blondie. Christina came into the bathroom to find me stepping into the shower and said yes for one night there had been a we between them when she could not find out where he had gotten off too and had been worried I was dead.  I cleaned myself quickly and then got out and dried off almost as quickly very aware that she was staring.  As I tried to rebandage the sutures which had begun seeping she took over and asked when I was going to stop getting injured.

I shrugged and said it was not my fault and actually saved someone's life and then caught the guy.  She nodded and said she got that much on the news.  I finally asked why she was here if she did not want me anymore.  She looked into my eyes and asked why I though she did not want me anymore.  I told her she divorced me and took everything, which I assumed meant my company and she said technically there was more than one but yes she did and just so I knew she sold the house to one of those companies which at the moment was leasing it out as a vacation rental and was currently being used for a movie shoot.  I nodded and told her just so she knew when i got back to the states I was going back home.  She nodded and said she had already come to that conclusion i would be heading back there but had someone call her to let her know i was still in town which got them all out today going to every resort, hotel and motel in the area and there were a lot of them.  As she finished with my bandages she asked what name I was using as they would not tell her at the desk.  I pointed to my pants and she pulled out my old new wallet.  After reading my passport card she looked up and said it was the hair that she missed not to mention i had lost some weight.  When I climbed into bed I told Christina to turn the lights out when she left.  Smiling she asked what if she stayed and I told her there was an extra bed but I only slept with women I was married with as a general rule.  She said she could live with that, yanked off her dress to reveal the skimpiest set of panties I had ever seen her wear and then those went away as well.  Walking to my bag she looked through it and then came over and sat on the edge of my bed and called the front desk and asked for them to send up a tooth brush, a razor and shaving cream.

I told her mine were in the bathroom,  She shook her head and hung up and asked how is it we could share a tooth brush and not the same bed.  I did not answer for a few moments as I studied her and then told her she was right she should probably not share my tooth brush.  She made use of a comforter when the toiletries were delivered and then made a show of going to the bathroom and showering.  I had turned on the air conditioner to help drown out the noise.  When she got out of the bathroom it was cold and without thinking she climbed into bed next to me and started to snuggle into my back, before she could finish she apologized and I mumbled she was already there she may as well get some sleep.
